Problogger.net hacked? Darren Rowse's blogs gone down!

problogger hacked or down

A guru in the blogosphere, Darren Rowse, runs several blogs, most notable of which is problogger.net. This website tops in Technorati for faves and authority, and it brings Mr. Rowse over 15k visitors daily. It tells about tips for blogging and how to make money with a blog. However, since not so long ago (starting Feb 2nd 2008) problogger.net has not been functioning. The browser returned error, which means that most prorably problogger.net was hacked. I don't think that a professional blogger would simply quit for a while and put his blogs offline for experiment or for any other reason.

In addition to problogger.net, another site that was hacked is Mr. Rowse's digial photography school blog. I assume they are hosted on one server, and the problem has influenced both sites. Surely Darren owns/runs more blogs, but I don't know which exactly.

I've checked the whois data for problogger.net and the name servers indicated b5media.com (also down), hosting another 438 sites there.

So, I believe, when Darren Rowse fixes the problems, either the hack or the server maintenance, or other, he will provide a detailed report on what had happenned with his blogs, namely problogger.net and digital photogtaphy school.

Wow! that seems to be a big blip. I hope the site will be up soon.

Just a minor server issue. When a site goes down, the most logical explanation is always server issues (not getting hacked).

Well, then it is obvious that Darren MUST get a new hosting pack, couse he lost a lump-sum during this "minor server issue"..

i only saw it down for a few minutes - did you see it unavailable for longer? I'm pressuming you're seeing it live now?

Mr. Rowse, for me it's down (i'm in eastern europe) and it had been down since yesterday (more than 48 hours now)... I think many people see it down too... i'm not good at server and network stuff, but i know it happens: distant servers/nodes still think you're down, and they need some time...

Sorry, but it's up. I've checked from 20 locations around the web and it's up. Trust me when I tell you that if it was down:

1. We'd have hundreds of emails about this
2. The NEW posts since you wrote yours WOULDN'T have comments (they do)

My guess is it's something at your ISP level.

Also, as far as hosting, let's not criticize. While our hosting isn't perfect, it's quite advanced, and is under pretty incredible load (serving up 1 billion hits per month). So yeah, things'll go wrong, but they're rarely wrong for long :-)

Jeremy,
I'm not sure about why it was down for me for so much time, but that's a fact. I don't mean to criticize your hosting; I know problems happen, so don't take it as offense.
